Ugadi Pachadi
The Ugadi is a happy and auspicious occasion in human life. Ugadi has been an important and historic festival of the Hindus.
Ugadi is the New Year’s day for the Hindus of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka state in India. Ugadi is celebrated as Gudi Padwa by the people of Maharashtra in India. It is celebrated very grandly across the state Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka.
Ugadi pachadi is a mixture that has six different tastes:
sweet, sour, salt, pungent, spice and bitter. This is a sweet and sour pachadi. Ugadi pachadi is a festive food drink that contains 6 ingredients having 6 different tastes.
Sweet taste comes from jaggery & it symbolizes joy or happiness. Ugadi Pachadi is made with fresh tamarind, jaggery, fresh mangoes, red chilli and neem flowers.
Six main Ingredients used for making Telugu New Year (Ugadi Pachadi)
- Tamarind gives a sour taste of unpleasantness.
- Jaggery gives a sweet taste of joy or happiness.
- Raw mango is tangy that is cleaned and dried and finely chopped into small pieces which surprise you.
- Neem flowers are bitter.
- Red chilli which makes your food drink spicy.
- Salt to taste.
Ugadi Pachadi Receipe:
- Soak some amount of tamarind in ½ cup water for about 30 minutes and squeeze the tamarind pulp and keep it aside. In a bowl, add this tamarind pulp.
- Then add 1 cup of water.
- Add ½ cup of chopped jaggery (unrefined sugar).
- Mix very well with a spoon so that the jaggery dissolves.
- Then add the finely chopped raw mangoes. You can also add dry fruits, coconut and banana.
- Then add the neem flowers.
- Add a pinch of red chilli powder.
- Add a pinch of salt or add as per required.
- Mix it well and serve it to your family & friends.
